Marangu Route - Overview
The Marangu Route, often called the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the oldest and most traditional path to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Famous for its gradual ascent and well-structured huts, this route is ideal for climbers who prefer a more comfortable trekking experience with less camping.
The trail passes through lush rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert before reaching the summit. Unlike other routes, Marangu provides hut accommodation instead of camping, offering a unique comfort advantage, especially for first-time climbers or those seeking an easier climb.
Climbers benefit from a “climb high, sleep low” approach to aid acclimatization, although the shorter distance can make altitude sickness slightly more challenging than on longer routes. The Marangu Route typically takes 5 to 6 days, making it the quickest official path to Uhuru Peak.
Choosing Oltau Safaris & Tours for the Marangu Route ensures professional guides, safety-first monitoring, comfortable hut accommodations, and excellent summit success support throughout your adventure.
