Northern Circuit Route with Crater Camping
The Northern Circuit Route with Crater Camping is the most comprehensive and scenic way to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. As the longest route on the mountain, it offers unmatched acclimatization, exceptional summit success rates, and the rare opportunity to spend a night inside the volcanic crater near the summit.
Unlike shorter routes, the Northern Circuit approaches from the quiet western side and then circles the remote northern slopes of Kilimanjaro. This means fewer crowds, expansive 360° panoramic views, and a gradual altitude gain that significantly improves your body’s ability to adjust.
The highlight of this itinerary is Crater Camping after reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m), climbers descend into the summit crater for an unforgettable overnight stay surrounded by ancient glaciers, dramatic volcanic landscapes, and the famous Ash Pit. Very few climbers experience this unique perspective of Africa’s highest mountain.
